Brian Monteverd

Executive Director
Brian moved to Worcester in 2010 for graduate school where he connected with the community through his work in Food Justice. As a bicycle commuter he discovered Worcester Earn-a-Bike. He began volunteering at WEAB in 2014, joined the Board in 2015, and served in leadership roles since: Clerk from 2017 to 2019 and President from 2019 until this year when he accepted the newly created Executive Director position.

Brian grew up in Upstate New York outside of Albany and earned a bachelor’s degree in business from Ithaca College. He came to Worcester for dual Masters degrees at Clark in Community Development and an MBA. Brian has made Worcester his home since for over 12 years. After Clark, he worked at Regional Environmental Council, helping start the mobile market and food hub to get food into communities with few healthy food options. Brian subsequently held various project management roles in the local justice community. He most recently worked for in Finance for a family-owned pet food company.

During Brian’s time at WEAB he has ridden his bike occasionally but enjoys helping someone new fall in love with riding.

Miyabi Armstrong

Assistant Treasurer
Miyabi has been biking since childhood. It is her favorite summer activity and form of exercise. She is passionate about nonprofit organizations. Prior to joining WEAB, she held leadership roles in other nonprofits and currently works as an auditor at a CPA firm where she works on audits of nonprofit organizations. She is currently pursuing her CPA certification.

Stacie Brimmage

Board Member
is a life-long Worcester resident. She’s a long-time youth worker and currently serves as the YouthGROW Coordinator at the Regional Environmental Council. She enjoys working on bikes and absolutely loves it when someone walks a bike in, gets what they need, and gets to ride it out.

Frankie Franco

Vice President
has served as a mentor and role model for numerous youth and adults, making a positive impact through his involvement with organizations like 508 Bike Life, the Latino Education Institute's program for middle school boys, the Appalachian Mountain Club's Youth Opportunities Program, the City of Worcester's Division of Youth Opportunities, and several other local groups. Presently, he is engaged in a joint effort with Technocopia, a makerspace in Worcester, to assist Latinos in recovery at the Hector Reyes House.

Ellen Gugel

Clerk
is a life-long cyclist and bicycle advocate. She serves on her town’s Active Transportation & Safety Committee in Westborough and has served on the MassBike Board. She has used her professional fundraising and grant writing skills for WEAB since 2017. She is an independent grants consultant working with community-based organizations through the state and several in Worcester. Her number one love is bike touring, starting with a two-month solo ride out west when she was 26 that got her hooked for life.

Nathan Lewis

Board Member
As a resident of Central Massachusetts, Nathan Lewis has fully integrated into the Worcester community. Starting his journey at the College of the Holy Cross, he then transitioned to collaborating with local non-profits before securing a position at the Central Massachusetts Regional Planning Commission. Currently serving as the Public Outreach Coordinator/Assistant Planner for the Transportation Division, he is deeply committed to creating a sustainable future that prioritizes the well-being of both the planet and its inhabitants. Through a combination of advocacy, community engagement, and hands-on initiatives, he strives to make a lasting impact. Nathan firmly believes in the power of initiatives like biking to promote sustainability and build community.

Jon Marien

Board Member
Jon Marien comes to WEAB having served as an Americorps VISTA, as an organizer of the Worcester Anti-Foreclosure Team, and as a Community Advocate for NeighborWorks. Jon currently serves as a Special Olympics Ski Coach, Housing Rights Chair for the Worcester chapter of the NAACP, and is an Appalachian Mountain Club Youth leader. With a new found focus on his health Jon has become passionate about cycling and wants to share that passion with others.

Kim McCoy

Treasurer
Kim McCoy has been a bicycle commuter/camper and amateur mechanic for old bikes for 50 years, a MassBike advocate for 40 years, Seven Hills Wheelmen Secretary for 20 years, and our treasurer since 2005. He is inspired by the much greater expertise and commitment of our shop managers.

Coqui Negrón

President
is a health educator, trainer, interpreter, and community activist. She likes to get involved in projects and initiatives that help build community while advancing issues of social, racial, economic, and language justice. She brings to Worcester Earn-A-Bike her passion for creating welcoming and accessible spaces for people of all ages, genders, and racial backgrounds and her Spanish language skills. Besides volunteering at WEAB, Coqui is also a member of the Peace Park Community Garden, the Worcester World Cup, and Tertulia Julia de Burgos.

Sara Rivera (pronouns she/her/ella)

Board Member
was born and raised in Worcester Massachusetts, first generation from Salvadoran parents and graduated from Worcester Public Schools (North High School!). She received her Associates in General Studies from Quinsigamond Community College and a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies concentrating in Psychology and Family Studies From Worcester State University.

 She comes to WEAB with over 13 years in working in the Worcester Public Schools department. First, as an educator in the classroom supporting students with emotional and behavioral needs, then through human resources, equity and quality insurance at the district level. Prior to that, she started her youth work journey as a shift Supervisor in group homes and a juvenile detention center, as well as supporting afterschool and mentoring programs through the Latino Education Institute at Worcester State.

 In her own words: “My passion with community engagement, growth through learning, and helping others has opened many doors for me to utilize my skills and help those in our community, especially by closing gaps when there is a language barrier, as I speak Spanish, and assisting those wanting to grow in their careers in my current role as Quality Assurance Specialist for WPS”

 As a board member for WEAB, she’s excited to work alongside the other board members, and agency through assisting with recruitment for positions, events, and community projects that center the most impacted. Utilizing her skill sets to build a stronger nonprofit that youth and community members can participate in, where we collectively can build a bicycle together, learn the basics, and get out for a ride!
