Green Solidarity Economy Conference Saturday 7/23
Saturday, July 23, 2011 9am – 5 pm Worcester Youth Center 326 Chandler St. Worcester, MA We chose the framework of the “green solidarity economy” because of its broad appeal to many diverse groups. The green economy focuses on generating new jobs, goods, and services which encourage less‐destructive processes to the health of the planet. The solidarity economy is commercial and non‐commercial activity based on the principles of solidarity, sustainability, equity, participatory democracy, and pluralism. Taken together, the green solidarity economy focuses on “sustainable”, “closed‐cycle”, or “environmentally friendly” production and distribution processes which promote workplace democracy, social justice, and community empowerment. The Worcester Green Jobs Coalition spearheaded the organization of this conference since late October, 2010. The coalition represents over two‐dozen local organizations committed to collaborative projects for creating local sustainable and just development. For more information about the Worcester Green Jobs Coalition, including ways to support their efforts in the future, please visit www.greenjobsworcester.org
